Drop Policies

SEVEN-WEEK DROP

  • Any student is eligible to drop a course within the first seven weeks. In general, this type of drop does not require a signature. However, see the sections on under loads and fee liability waivers.

UNDER LOAD WAIVERS

  • An undergraduate course load below 12 hours is officially considered to be an under load.
  • Students should be advised to take into consideration the possible consequences of taking an under load, such as financial aid, probation, and graduation repercussions.

LATE DROP (coded W)

  • All lower division students are eligible for two Late Drops
  • All upper division students are eligible for a single Late Drop. A One-Time Late Drop is a course drop occurring from week 8 through the end of week 12 during the fall and spring semesters. Deadlines for One-Time Late Drops will be pro-rated during summer terms.
  • Dean’s signature is required.

DEAN’S DROP (coded WD)

  • Reserved for exceptional situations. Students must complete a petition form.
  • Documented legitimate cause, such as medical or personal hardship, is required.
  • Dean’s (or representative’s) signature is required.

All dates are prorated for summer terms.  Please refer to the academic calendar for the appropriate dates.
