In addition, the office maintains information on the university's Honor Societies. University Honors Program The University Honors Program offers incoming freshmen special educational opportunities in the classroom as well as emphasizing the importance of research, creative activity and community service in the undergraduate educational experience. Students who complete the program are awarded the University Honor Medallion. University Honors Program web site: http://honors.fsu.edu Honors in the Major Program Outstanding upper division students are eligible to participate in the Honors in the Major Program, which is modeled on graduate school and built around performing world-class scholarship. The capstone experience of the Honors in the Major Program is the writing and defense of an Honors Thesis. While the FSU Honors Office sets the broad framework for the Honors in the Major Program, individual departments have responsibility for administering the particulars of the Honors in the Major Program in their disciplines. Completion of the Honors in the Major Program is recognized by the distinction of graduating "with Honors" being noted on the student's transcript. Honors in the Major web site: http://honorsinthemajor.fsu.edu Honor Societies at FSU The Florida State University sponsors chapters of many academic honor societies, some University-wide, and some specific to individual disciplines. These societies recognize students who have excelled academically and in some cases provide opportunities for service to the University and community. Students who are contacted about Honor Societies regarding membership should first find out whether the society is officially recognized by Florida State University. The list of recognized societies is located at the web site listed below. Honor Societies at FSU web site: http://honorsocieties.fsu.edu FSU Honors Office Staff:
