Checklist for Liberal Studies Requirements

Please Note: Some programs may require specific courses within the Liberal Studies
curriculum. Check with your advisor at Orientation to determine which classes are recommended for your
program of study. Be sure to print this page and bring it with you to Orientation.
I. Mathematics- 6 Hours

One course taught by the mathematics department. All students are required to complete
their first math class by the end of their first year on campus. Students mandated to take preparatory work prior to starting
college-level math are required to enroll in those courses in the first semester. One additional course taught by either the
mathematics department, statistics department, or PHI3130.
II. English Composition- 6 Hours

__________Second English-select from Liberal Studies list
All students are required to complete 6 hours of freshman English coursework by the end of the freshman year.
Students with no previous credit in English composition MUST register for the first course during the first term on campus.
Students with 3 hours of freshman English credit may put off taking the second English composition course until their second
semester on campus. Students mandated to take preparatory work prior to starting college-level English are required to enroll
in those course in the fall.
III. History/Social Science- 6 Hours Select from Liberal Studies
list

One history course and one social science source are required.
IV. Humanities/Fine Arts- 5 Hours Select from Liberal Studies list

Two humanities/fine arts courses including one literature-based humanities course

Corresponding Lab (1hr), plus one other science class from the Liberal Studies list
