Angela Richardson is a native of Jacksonville, Florida. She received her B.S. Degree in Sociology from Florida A&M University and a Masters degree in Social Work from Florida State University. She has been an administrative and professional employee of FSU for the past twenty years. During her first eleven years at FSU, she served as Associate Director of Equal Opportunity Programs, and subsequently moved to the Division of Undergraduate Studies as Director of the Office of Minority Academic Programs. Currently, she is the Director of the Center for Academic Retention and Enhancement (C.A.R.E.).
She has been affiliated with the National Association of Human Relations Professionals, the Florida Association of Equal Opportunity Professional, and the Florida Association of Educational Opportunity Program Professionals. She is a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and Jack and Jill of America, Inc. She also served on the Board of Directors of the Tallahassee-Leon County Community Action Agency, and held membership on the Leon County Literacy Council, and the Leon County Adult Education Task Force.
In her present position, Ms. Richardson is responsible for the oversight and leadership of a center that provides transitional and academic support to disadvantaged, first-generation college students. The center administers several pre-collegiate and undergraduate programs targeted to such students with a goal of enhancing access to higher education, academic performance, retention and graduation. She has always been dedicated to measures for empowering others to reach their full human potential, and is firmly committed to initiatives that enable young people to improve their quality of life through higher education.
Ms. Richardson is the 2005 recipient of the Florida State University Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Distinguished Service Award.
