Chapter History
FSU’s chapter of Phi Kappa Phi is the oldest chartered honor society at FSU.
Installed on Friday, May 22, 1925, when FSU was still known as Florida State College for Women, Phi Kappa Phi continues to initiate and recognize accomplished undergraduate, graduate, and professional students from all academic disciplines.

Membership
Membership in The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi is earned, and admission is by invitation only. An invitation to join requires nomination by FSU’s chapter.
Phi Kappa Phi at FSU sends invitations to membership once per year, usually in early February. The annual initiation ceremony is held in April. Students do not have to be present at initiation to accept membership in Phi Kappa Phi, however, those who attend initiation receive a blue honor cord to wear at commencement.
Students must be in Good Academic Standing at FSU to receive an invitation. In special cases, students with an exceptional GPA, and faculty, professional staff, and alumni who achieve scholarly distinction may also be eligible for membership.
Eligibility requirements:
- Juniors must have completed at least 72 semester hours and rank in the top 7.5% of their class by academic program.
- Seniors must have completed at least 90 semester hours and rank in the top 10% by academic program.
- Graduate and professional students must have completed at least 18 semester hours at FSU and rank in the top 10% of their class by academic program.
